Is Abu Al-Faiz Thauban Ibn Ibrahim Al-Misri, a Sufi who is known as Dzunnun Al-Misri. The name Al-Misri is the title given to him because he was bought in Egypt. His life span was famous during the heyday of the Abbasids, namely during the time of Harun Al-Rashid and at that time Islamic science, culture and scientific traditions experienced rapid progress. During the time of Dzunnun Al-Misri the scientific field also developed, especially the science of Sufism. The character of Dzunnun who is wara', ascetic, and noble character supports the Sufism theories he develops. He was the first person to lay the foundations of Sufism theory and special notions. He laid the foundation of Sufism with ma'rifah so that in the Islamic world he was nicknamed the Father of Understanding Ma'rifah. Ma'rifah is true knowledge about God, and Ma'rifah is only found in Sufis who are able to see God with their heart. From her understanding Ma'rifah is knowing God's secrets with the heart.
