Abstract

Syekh Hamzah Fansuri is one of the prominent scholars in the history of Islam in the Nusantara, renowned as the first Sufi poet in the region. This article comprehensively explores the biography of Syekh Hamzah Fansuri, covering his life background, education, and intellectual and spiritual journey, which significantly influenced the spread of Islam in the Nusantara. His thoughts, deeply rooted in philosophical Sufism and the concept of wujudiyah, became a cornerstone in the intellectual tradition of Islam in the region. Furthermore, this article delves into his works, such as Sufi poetry that integrates spiritual values with the aesthetic beauty of the Malay language, as well as his contributions to the development of Islamic literature in the Nusantara. Through this discussion, readers are expected to understand the crucial role of Syekh Hamzah Fansuri in shaping the Islamic and cultural identity of the Malay world, as well as the relevance of his thoughts in contemporary contexts
